What is COB LED Strip?
COB stands for chip on board. COB LED strips are a type of LED strip lights that directly package chips on the circuit board (PCB), then drop a layer of glue mixed with phosphor powder on the surface of chips. Manufacturing COB LED light strip eliminates the wire bonding process of SMD chips and soldering brackets compared with SMD LED strip lights production, it greatly improved the stability of the high density LED strip and better heat dissipation. LED COB strips are very flexible since their diodes are smaller and placed closer together, so spotless LED strip can curve into tight areas or fit around corners.

Anti-Vulcanization Feature
Unlike traditional SMD LEDs, LED COB strip lights lacking gold wires, are resistant to vulcanization. In traditional SMD LEDs, gold wires connect one electrode to the LED bracket, while the other electrode is linked through silver glue. However, silver easily reacts with sulfides, leading to blackening and reduced luminous flux.
Enhanced Stability, Fewer Issues
Flexible COB LED strip directly adhered to the FPCB and without gold wires, minimize problems associated with traditional SMD LED strips. Issues like breakage of thin gold wires and resulting non-illumination of the chip are mitigated. The circuit design of COB LED tape involves three chips connected in parallel to form groups, ensuring continuous illumination even if a set of two chips fails. With up to 1600 chips per meter, a few non-functional chips have negligible impact, avoiding dark areas and maintaining uninterrupted functionality. In contrast, traditional SMD LED strip, once cut, exhibit non-illumination in the presence of faulty lamp beads, leading to visible dark areas.
